Because one TPA firm is essentially performing the same tasks as another, plan sponsors can find it difficult to compare one TPA firm to another. Choosing the best TPA can be a daunting task. Motivated by a desire to differentiate itself from the competition, SI GROUP subjected its business practices and policies to a certification process sponsored by the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA). Currently, there are fewer than 50 TPA firms in the United States that have achieved this certification, which is known as CEFEX.
ASPPA’s CEFEX certification program looks at a firm’s stability, its long-range and succession planning, and a total of 17 best practices which are intended to provide the foundation and framework for disciplined recordkeeping and administration processes. Thanks to the rigors of this process, a plan sponsor can confidently select a TPA holding CEFEX certification, knowing that senior management demonstrates expertise in the retirement industry, that the organization on the whole has the capacity to services its client base and that the work done is performed in a timely and accurate manner.
SI GROUP achieved its CEFEX certification in 2008. Additionally, the company undergoes an ASPPA-directed audit annually. SI GROUP has maintained the highest “AAA” rating from year to year.
